The researchers at the Historic Blakeley State Park
have amassed, and continue to amass, a wonderful collection of materials
on approximately 200 Union and Confederate Regiments that fought at Fort
Blakeley and at Spanish Fort during the Civil War. They also have
a collection of Union & Confederate Soldiers' diaries and letters,
as well as, photos of those individuals. They are increasing contact
with descendants of those soldiers who fought there, collecting their genealogies.
They have a list of 4,000 Confederates taken prisoners at the Battles of
Blakeley & Spanish Fort. Last, but not least, they have the history
on the early inhabitants of the Town of Blakeley (1813-1860).
